Monthly Recap – APRIL Wrap-Up & MAY To-Be-Read List (April 30, 2017)

Hi everyone, how are you? I hope you all are having an awesome weekend and a fantastic month. It is so bizarre how this month has passed too quickly. I’m going to share my April Recaps and May to-be-read list. I’ve read less than 12 books this month, which is less than I expected, but I did enjoy the majority of them. I had a fantastic reading month this month. I’ve decided to not make any target in the future as I used to do. I think it is more fun to read as many books as I’m comfortable, not because I’m under pressure to reach certain number but because I enjoy and love the process. I have a giveaway I’m gonna share next month; I’m teaming up with fellow book bloggers and authors. I’m also planning to join NetGalley, which is terrifying, but something I’m gonna try. It is terrifying since I love reading books under no obligation, so I’ll see if it is something I will enjoy. I want to thank all of my fellow book bloggers. Thanks for all of your wonderful reviews! I’ve gotten a lot of incredible book recommendations, which I […]

Book Review – Before I Ever Met You by Karina Halle

Genres: Adult, Contemporary Romance Standalone/Series: Standalone Published on: April 24, 2017 POV: Dual first POV Source: gifted Rating: 5 STARS Buy on Amazon Wow, what a fantastic love story! Before I Ever Met You is a complete standalone book by Karina Halle. This book is totally different from the most books I’ve read by this author and, hands down, one of the best books I’ve ever read so far. Before I explain in detail what I LOVED about this story, let me tell you what the story is about. What is the story about? Jackie Phillips is a twenty-five-year-old, single mother with a seven-year-old son who has just recently been back to her hometown in Vancouver after breaking up with her longtime boyfriend and the father of her son. As a young, single mother without a degree, she barely makes ends meet despite having been working two jobs. Determined to give her son a better life, she decides to get back to her hometown, Vancouver, and lives with her parents, even though it is the last thing she has ever wanted to do after what she had put them through in the past. When her father offers her a job in his […]

Book Review – Say I’m Yours (Return To Me #3) by Corinne Michaels

Genres: Adult, Contemporary Romance Standalone/Series: Standalone (part of a series) Published on: March 27, 2017 Pages: 310 Source: Purchased Rating: 3.5 STARS Buy on Amazon Say I’m Yours is the third book in Return to Me Series by Corinne Michaels. The series is about second chances and each book can be read as a standalone. I loved The Consolation Duet and had since been obsessed with her writing, which was the reasons I decided to read this book. What is the story about? Trent Hennington is the oldest brother in the Hennington family. While two of his younger brothers, Zack and Wyatt, have settled down, he still could not bring himself to start a family even though he has been in a long relationship with the girl who is the love of his life, Grace. He loves her with all of his beings but his fear of commitment is bigger than anyone could imagine. He has secretly been hiding a pain; the one that has shaped him to be the man he is now. He is confident with their relationship and has never thought that Grace will leave him for wanting more in her life. “I wish I could save […]

Things that Make Me WANT & NOT WANT to Read a Book

This is an interesting topic to share not only what kinds of books I love but a little bit about myself as well. What are the things that make me want to read a book and discourage me from reading it? I’ve been thinking about this topic in the last week and, interestingly, I’ve kind of gotten to know myself better in the process: be honest about what I love and embrace it. Some of you may already have a  glimpse of what I love in books from the lists of books that I’ve read, enjoyed, and reviewed on this blog, but I want to explain it specifically. Things that make me WANT to read a book: 1. When an author says “this book is not for anyone” (dark, taboo, forbidden romances). Yep, I love unique, provocative, unconventional books that push all my boundaries and make me question things. I’m a huge fan of dark, taboo, forbidden romances. I may not agree with a lot of things in the stories, but I love some of the messages behind them and the fact that the authors do take risks. In addition, I love experiencing the mixed […]

Book Review – The Coppersmith Farmhouse (Jamison Valley #1) by Devney Perry

Genres: Adult, Contemporary Romance Standalone/Series: Standalone (part of a series) Published on: March 9, 2017 Pages: 374 Source: Purchased Rating: 4 STARS Buy on Amazon What a stunning story. The Coppersmith Farmhouse is an amazing debut book by Devney Perry. It is the first book in the Jamison Valley series but can be read as a complete standalone. Before I talk specifically about this book, I want to thank the author for writing such a beautiful story. I cannot wait to read her next works. What is the story about? One old farmhouse brought them together. It could also tear them apart. After losing the only person who cared for her and her daughter, Georgia moves into a small town to start a new life. She has inherited a beautiful farmhouse from Ben after he passed away and has been instructed by him to move there. Ben was an elder she met in the hospital she was working in. They hit it off soon after they met. He had kind of adopted her to be his grandchild, along with her daughter, Rowen. When he passed away, it was a devastating moment for Georgia and her daughter, Rowen. They both loved […]

Book Review – Damnable Grace (Hades Hangmen #5) by Tillie Cole

Genres: Adult, Dark, Contemporary Romance Standalone/Series: Standalone (part of a series) Published on: April 16, 2017 Pages: 465 Source: Publisher Rating: 4.5 STARS Buy on Amazon I’ve read all the books in the Hades Hangmen series and enjoyed most of them. Each book gets better and this book is one of my favorites in the series. Even though Damnable Grace is part of a series, you can read this as a complete standalone. It will definitely be better if you read them in order since each story is interconnected. What is the story about? Even the broken, through love, can find grace. Sister Phebe has been groomed since childhood to please men sexually in New Zion. Since she is great at her job, she then becomes the Head of the Sacred Sisters of New Zion and is taken by Meister, the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. Meister is obsessed with her and keeps her as his personal slave where she has to endure physical tortures every day. Xavier ‘AK’ Deyes is Sergeant-At-Arms of the Hades Hangmen. He is an ex-special ops sniper who was experienced in warfare and schooled in military operations. He earned the name AK because of his […]
