“Because love makes us do things we swear we’ll never do.”

This story follows a handsome, professional snowboarder with a number of X Games medals under his belt, Landon, who is not only popular in the extreme sport but also among the ladies. He is part of the group named the Renegades with his three best friends and is called Nova (from the name Casanova) by his fans based on his reputation as a notorious ladies man. They were on the Study at Sea program while filming a documentary.

From the outside, he is a successful athlete, known for his extreme hobbies, and a young man who can have any girls he wants, but in the inside, he has been carrying indescribable pain and guilt about leaving the only girl he has ever loved. Both the extreme sports and random women are his ways to cope with the pain, until everything changes. The girl he has left behind and tried to forget is standing in front of him and to make everything worse is she will attend some of the classes he does. After several occasions of meeting her and realizing that he still loves her, he decides to win her back. 😉

Rachel takes the program to travel abroad and study abroad without knowing that the Renegades is on that ship. She has been trying to avoid Landon as best as she could when she realized that he is on the same ship she is, like she has done for the last two and a half years. The way their relationship ended is the most painful experience she has never forgotten, and still, cannot. The problem is that he chases her every day and refuses to leave her alone.

“I’m not going to be easy to avoid, not when I’m putting myself in your path at every possible moment. In fact, I’m going to make it impossible for you to ignore me, Rachel.”

What a fantastic second chance romance!

One of the things that I loved most about this story is Landon’s persistence to win Rachel back. One of the things I love in second-chance romances is to see what the hero or the heroine will do to redeem himself or herself. He did the best he could to have her talk to him, work things out, and forgive him. He never gave up. He was the “I will do the impossible things to win her over” kind of guy, and I LOVED it. In addition to that, I loved the fact that he took his time and made sure that she forgave him before giving their relationship a new start. Hence, their relationship progressed gradually, which I loved. 😀

“I was going to win her back. Not just her friendship. Her heart. Her love.”

Another thing that I loved was that Rachel didn’t make it easy for him. She didn’t easily give up even though their physical attraction was undeniable. In addition, she was a strong girl who stood up for herself, was never afraid to admit when she made mistakes, a very loyal and caring to those she loved; the kind of heroine that I love. I understood why it was hard for her to forgive him after what he had done and the suffers she had had to endure when he left her. However, I’m going to be honest that there was one heart-stopping moment where I thought she should have forgiven him, given what he had done to show her how much he loved her and how sorry he was for everything that had happened to them in the past. It broke my heart when she still refused to let it go even after what had happened to him. That poor guy had done the best he could, what else would you expect from him? 🙁

However, I loved how the things progressed when they finally worked things out with all the ups and downs. Landon never stopped to amaze me with his love and personality; he won me over in the process by doing the things that were way above my expectations. I highly recommend this book and the series for those who love second-chance, heart-warming romance with a kickass heroine, a perfect hero, refreshing twists that would pique your curiosity and interest, and a perfectly written love story about love, forgiveness, and starting over. 😀

  1. Ahh….This sounds fun. I haven’t seen this series, but I like that this is a solid second chance romance, I like the sound of the male POV. It also sounds like it isn’t packed with drama and angst.

  2. Sounds like a great second chance romance! And it sounds like he really did put effort into communicating and fixing things and earning her forgiveness. I think that would be important to me in a second chance romance book. And I like what you said about how she didn’t immediately jump back into arms, that sounds realistic. Glad you liked this book, and great review!

  3. Sophia Rose

Fun setting and extreme sports element. I love second chance romance b/c they give a chance to people who screwed up the first time or weren’t ready and needed more time.

    Great review, Geybie!

    • I need to read Wilder as soon as possible. Nove was amazing, you’d enjoy it, Jess. Same here, I want to read more about Nick but I’m excited to read Rebel. 😀

Still like WILDER better, but damn.. The renegades conquered my heart, just like her Flyboys did as well from Flight & Glory. This woman knows how to write <3 <3
