Wow… This book has the power to make you completely immersed in the story without even realizing it. I was feeling like I was in the story, not the one who was reading it, since the very first page. It was getting better as I turned the pages and turned out to be completely the opposite of what I’d had in mind.

What is it about? It follows an outstanding girl named Dixie. She is sweet and selfless… the kind of girl that always sees the good in people. The way she treats everyone that comes to her life makes her lovable. She is infectious, the sunshine whose light positively affects everyone around her. However, it seems that her bright personality doesn’t do a thing to the man, Dashel Churchill, she has secretly loved for months since he walked into the bar she has worked in despite all her efforts to make him know her feelings. He has a secret that runs deep in his soul. Not wanting her to see how broken he is on the inside makes him keep her at arm’s length.

“Dixie Carmichael was the nicest girl I had ever met. She didn’t have a mean bone in her perfectly curvy and petite body. She was always smiling, always laughing, and there wasn’t a moment spent in her company where it didn’t feel like the sun was shining directly on you. She embodied warmth and care.”

“She shone as bright as the sun every single day but I was a man that knew all too well that too much time in the sun could lead to some serious burns.”

Determined to find her happily ever afters and to distract herself from his indifference toward her, she turns to online dating. However, her blind dates turn to be nothing like she has expected.

“Maybe I wasn’t the girl meant for happily-ever-after.”

But when she thinks there is no hope for her to find her happily ever afters, the man of her dreams suddenly asks for her favor. Unfortunately, it’s not something that she has been hoping for from him… but the journey they will be in together is the one that will change both of their lives. 😉

I love the message of this story: Love can change everything, even the things that we think are impossible. What a powerful message it is. It outlines the whole story and the romance being portrayed.

“Sometimes all people can see is what’s different, but those differences are what make us who we are.”

In addition to the message, I was blown away by how deep and rich the writing was. I don’t usually enjoy a dual point of view story; I prefer it from the heroine’s only since it makes me connect with her and enjoy the story more. But the writing won me over; I completely forgot I was reading not only from her point of view but from his and found myself LOVE IT, which was a surprise. The powerful message combined with the fantastic writing create a beautiful, not overly angsty yet still emotionally deep and rich love story.

Even though the story was not overly angsty (no cheating, no secret baby, no love triangle, etc) it is far from boring. It has a great drama that made me constantly sit on the edge with my heart beating faster as I turned the pages. I was consumed by the way the characters developed, drawn by their vulnerability and honesty. All the things (the romance and the whole story) are in perfect pace, not too rushed or too slow, and the ending could not be more perfect. It turned out to be more than I had expected it to be.

I couldn’t recommend this book enough. If you love a beautifully written, slow-burn, not overly angsty romance with a broken alpha male and a kickass heroine when love, family, and second chances are the main themes, this book should be your next read. 🙂

  1. This sounds like a romance I would like. I am the opposite of you, I love dual point of view. I also like that this one isn’t full of drama and angst. I have long wanted to try this author, I will have to add this series to my list.
