One of my all time favorites! This series is one of the old amazing reads I read way back that introduced me to the amazing book world. After two years since the last time I read this, this unbelievably amazing series has stayed with me. Through hundreds of books later, this series is still in a special corner in my heart.
The story is following a girl named Kiera who followed her boyfriend Danny to a new city, leaving her hometown. Kiera to attend her dream college, and Danny at his dream job. Both had been together for two years where everything was perfect. Until she found herself and her boyfriend rented a room with an extremely handsome roommate, which happened to be Danny’s best friend. Their roommate was Kellan, a local rock star. The story became complicated when she found herself have a special spot for the handsome roommate and the roommate started to feel the same to her. All their lives became COMPLICATED!!
Yep… FORBIDDEN all the time. Miss Stephens brilliantly created moments in the story that made you sit on the edge of your seat because the roller coaster of anticipation: “I want them to be together!”, “Oh no, it is not right”, “Do that!”, “NO, DON’T DO THAT”, “Oh no, they shouldn’t have done that”. I’m feeling what they’re feeling: the guilty, desperate feelings and jealousy. My logic said that it was not responsible and wrong at so many levels, but my heart spoke the opposite. 😉
I was living her life, which led me to the emotional roller coaster. I hated her for her stupidity many times, but I did not want to leave either. She was in the craziest situation no one ever wanted to be in, but she handled it the best she could. I could relate to her. This story was one of the most emotional abuse stories I’ve ever read. However, even though It was crazy, I did not want it to end.
“Can you lose something that was never yours to begin with?” – Keira”
“He relaxed and looked at my lips and then my eyes and then back to my lips. “How do we do that? This is what we do…back and forth, back and forth. You want me, you want him. You love me, you love him. You like me, you hate me, you want me, you don’t want me, you love me…you leave me. There’s so much that went wrong before…”
“I want you and only you and I can’t bear the thought of sharing you. I’m sorry.” He looked down sadly. “I want to be with you in the right way – in the open. I want to walk into Pete’s with you on my arm. I want to kiss you every time I see you, no matter who’s looking. I want to make love to you without fear of someone finding out. I want to fall asleep with you in my arms every night. I don’t want to feel guilty about something that makes me feel so…whole. I ‘m sorry, Keira, but I’m asking you to choose.”
What made me survive this story (completed three books) was KELLAN KYLE. The perfect, bad-boy, broken hero. He was one of the best characters ever written. Aside from his handsomeness, he was an easy-going, laid-back, charming, humble man and one of the perfect heroes ever created. I love how he loved Kiera, how much he loved her, even in the most complicated situation.
“Do you really think anyone in this world, compares to you in my eyes?”
I loved their banter. How easy and believable their relationship. As their relationship evolved, as did their struggles. But how they handled them was what took me to the new excitement that I did not think possible.
This story has it all: the angst, heartbreaking, beautiful, epic love story and great writing. Miss Stephens had the power to immerse you with the characters and become part of their world. If you haven’t read this story yet, go grab NOW. You can thank me later once you finish. Do the story has a happy ending? Yep. Everyone involved had their own. Is there a love triangle? I have talked about the story more than I should have, therefore, all I can say is yes, but it feels (kind of) not. You’ll understand what I mean when you experience the story yourself.
I promise that you won’t regret it! 5 stars (beyond perfect), one of my all time favorite “angsty” love stories.
